Check out how we transformed this worn flat into a sporty city pad
We’ve now completed our Wimbledon Project, and as it didn’t involve any building work this was a relatively quick turn around. We think the before and after photos are a great example of how a little bit of considered design can transform a space.
The brief was to transform a new build 2 bedroom flat in sporty SW19 into a modern, interesting, warm and characterful home. Areas for studying to be introduced to both bedrooms and improved storage throughout the property. Being a new build, the property suffered the typical attributes of bad sound insulation, layout and featureless rooms.
Before and After: The window box in the living room is now a cosy nook
Having lived in their new build flat for 18 months, the clients have struggled to make it truly feel like home. They wanted to make it a more characterful and useable space but were trepidatious about getting it wrong. The limited storage available wasn’t adequate, and there was a concern that adding more would result in a cluttered and busy looking space.
The living room area layout was reconfigured to make better use of the space, with new furnishings and additional seating. Zoning, both on the floor and walls helped define separate space throughout the property.
The budget was limited, so we focused on hard wearing, but easily repairable paint, in strong colours to give the rooms character and vibrancy. The varied colour scheme, mixed throughout the property draws attention and focus to different parts of each room, whilst keeping the look clean and far from boring. Creative use of paint was a cost effective way to add interest and create mood, and it injects a sense of fun into the design, whilst remaining a sophisticated, adult space. We made a subtle nod to the Wimbledon Tennis colours in our use of greens and purples.
Complimentary clean lines in muted textiles with accented colour will bring warmth and depth to the design and provide character and atmosphere to each individual room. Hope you like it as much as we do, we think it’s very successful!
