All architecture is shelter, all great architecture is the design of space that contains, cuddles, exalts, or stimulates the persons in that space.
Every great design begins with a story, and for this Greenwich penthouse, the tale lay in its surroundings. This was no anonymous box in the sky—it was a space steeped in character, with the river’s whispers and the building’s maritime echoes all around. Our approach began with respect, not reinvention. Exposed brick walls—already rich with texture and history—became a canvas. We chose a deep navy blue, a colour that felt both rooted and daring, anchoring the room while calling out to the river’s hues beyond the windows. This bold choice transformed a structural element into a statement, harmonizing with the flood of natural light that bathed the interiors through towering floor-to-ceiling glass.
But it wasn’t just about celebrating the old; it was about weaving it into the new. Copper accents—an ode to Tom Dixon’s genius—were threaded throughout the design, from bespoke hardware to striking light fixtures. These warm metallic notes added continuity, tying the penthouse interiors back to the shared spaces of the building. It was history, but with a modern shimmer—a design that leaned into its roots without becoming confined by them.
Let’s be clear: this was never going to be a monochrome space. London’s grey skies demand a defiant reply, and we answered with colour that spoke volumes. The living room became a stage for an emerald green velvet sofa—sumptuous, jewel-toned, unapologetic. Mustard yellows and golden metallics joined the conversation, layering warmth and energy into the scheme. This wasn’t just bold—it was alive.
For the bedrooms, we shifted gears, creating softer sanctuaries without losing the confidence of the palette. Deep plum walls wrapped the master bedroom in a cocoon of richness, while blush pink accents balanced the depth with subtlety and grace. It was luxury with range—a reminder that boldness isn’t about shouting, but knowing when to whisper.
Then there was the dining area, where the waves of the Thames inspired a bespoke hand-painted wallpaper. Swirls of teal and bronze danced across the wall, echoing the river’s flow while anchoring the space with movement and depth. This wasn’t just an accent wall—it was an artwork.
Lighting isn’t just functional—it’s transformative. And here, it became a signature of the design. A cascading glass-orb chandelier took centre stage in the dining area, evoking water droplets caught mid-air. Above the living room, a bold copper pendant didn’t just illuminate—it spoke, tying the space back to the nautical narrative while adding a modern punch.
We layered light throughout the penthouse, creating moods at the flick of a switch. LED strips subtly highlighted architectural features, wall sconces provided soft, ambient light, and sculptural floor lamps brought personality to the corners. By night, the penthouse glowed with warmth, every light source playing its part in a carefully choreographed design.
This bold and luxurious two-bedroom penthouse apartment – spanning under 1,100 square feet and situated within an iconic 35-story building in Greenwich – presented a unique opportunity to merge historic architectural elements with contemporary living.
This project was set within a building renowned for its nautical-inspired interiors, crafted by the legendary Tom Dixon. With features such as floor-to-ceiling windows, offering breathtaking views of London, and Dixon’s use of copper, concrete, and timber in communal spaces, our goal was to enhance this design language while bringing a personalised touch to the penthouse.
Our design approach focused on celebrating the architecture and history of the building, incorporating bold colours, statement lighting, and a dynamic mix of textures to elevate the space. Functionality was paramount, as the compact footprint demanded innovative storage solutions and multifunctional furniture. We worked closely with our clients to ensure every design choice served both aesthetic and practical purposes.
If colour is the soul of a space, then texture is its heartbeat. Here, every surface was chosen to invite touch, to create contrast, to spark intrigue. Velvet sofas sat comfortably against leather dining chairs, while sleek wooden cabinetry offered a grounding warmth. Concrete side tables, raw and modern, punctuated the softness, reminding us that luxury can be unexpected.
The master bedroom took texture to another level, with a quilted suede headboard that demanded attention. It wasn’t just furniture—it was a statement, a reminder that the interplay between hard and soft, warm and cool, can elevate even the smallest details. Texture became the unsung hero of this design, adding richness you could feel, even if you didn’t consciously notice.
Let’s not pretend space isn’t a premium in a city like London. At under 1,100 square feet, this penthouse demanded ingenuity as much as artistry. Every inch had to work, and work hard. Custom-designed furniture became our secret weapon. A modular sofa wasn’t just a place to sit—it offered concealed storage. The dining table? Also a space-saving marvel with built-in compartments.
We didn’t stop there. A bespoke bookshelf doubled as a room divider, creating zones without sacrificing the open flow. Bedrooms featured built-in wardrobes with hidden lighting—practical, yes, but also undeniably chic. This wasn’t just design for design’s sake. It was design that understood how people live.
Every space needs a little theatre, and for this penthouse, the furniture was the cast. A bronze-and-glass coffee table became the star of the living room, sculptural yet functional. Upholstered dining chairs in vibrant jewel tones played supporting roles, their colours echoing the accent wall.
Decor was the final flourish, bringing personality and polish. Oversized abstract art drew the eye, metallic vases shimmered in the light, and textured throw pillows invited you to sink in. These weren’t just finishing touches—they were moments of joy, pieces that told the story of a space meant to be lived in, loved, and remembered.
And then there were the risks—the moments that make a design unforgettable. A metallic ceiling in the hallway, reflective and bold, transformed a transitional space into a statement. It was a small touch, but it carried weight, creating drama and intrigue in what might otherwise have been overlooked.
This was a penthouse where no detail was too small to consider, no idea too bold to try. It was a space designed to be experienced, to be felt.
