The brief

A house with personality. The clients wanted warm, characterful rooms with colour, pattern and a few surprises, rather than a safe, neutral scheme.

Each room has its own mood, from a blue kitchen to a dining room with a painted sky overhead, but the house still feels like one home.

Kitchen

Blue cabinetry, fish-scale tiles and brass taps give the kitchen colour without it feeling busy.

Dining room

A painted sky ceiling, a statement chandelier and chairs in patterned velvet make every dinner feel like an occasion.

Living room

Teal velvet, a pink patterned rug and a sunny window seat make this the room everyone gravitates to.

Art

A painting of two cranes and carved timber doors bring craft and a bit of fun to the walls.

Hertfordshire interior design: what to plan for

Most of our Hertfordshire work is in larger family houses, where the changes are often structural: opening up rooms, moving walls or adding extensions. We bring a structural engineer in from the start, so the design and the build are planned together and there are no surprises once work begins. We work across Radlett, St Albans and the villages around them, travelling out from our London studio.
