Design Concept and Narrative

Inspired by the clients’ growing contemporary art collection, art pieces were curated and integrated throughout this luxury Hampstead home, harmonising with the overall design aesthetic while reflecting the family’s evolving tastes and interests. Embracing minimalist living, the design focused on clean lines, uncluttered spaces, and a restrained colour palette, maximising functionality and aesthetic appeal in each area. Building upon a previous collaboration, the design evolved from the family’s existing home, introducing new elements to accommodate their changing lifestyle.

A careful consideration of flow and layout enhanced circulation and connectivity between different areas, ensuring a cohesive living environment. The property serves as both the literal and metaphorical foundation for the family’s journey, emphasised through enhanced architectural features and durable, luxurious materials. Tailoring every space to support the family’s lifestyle, from intimate gatherings to social events, the design prioritises their needs and desires. Open communication and collaboration with the clients ensured their full investment in the design process, incorporating their ideas and feedback to create a home that embodies their vision for the future.

This holistic approach effectively communicated a narrative that intertwines physical, emotional, and aspirational elements of family life, crafting a compelling living environment that resonates deeply with the clients.

Achieving Harmony Among Colour Palettes And Materials

The colour palettes selected were intentionally pared back compared to other projects, emphasising simplicity and elegance. This approach allowed for a sense of minimalist tranquility while also providing a canvas for key design features to stand out. By employing a subdued colour scheme, the space exudes sophistication and allows for art pieces to take centre stage, enhancing the overall ambiance of this luxury Hampstead home.

Visual impact in this project was achieved through a thoughtful balance between seen and unseen elements. We integrated a hidden utility space into the design. While functionality is essential, concealing these areas maintains the aesthetic integrity of the space. Through clever use of design elements such as hidden cabinets and storage solutions, these blend into the surroundings, ensuring a clutter-free environment without compromising on style.

With each space centred around a different art piece, this allows for a dynamic visual experience throughout the environment. By curating the design around these focal points, we created distinct atmospheres that evoke different emotions and capture attention from various angles depending on what impact the person looking at it may first be drawn to. Each art piece serves as a focal point that influences the ambiance of its respective space.

Meeting The Functional And Practical Needs Of The Space

Our design prioritised functionality by reimagining spaces to accommodate the diverse needs of the family. Beginning the project as two young, hardworking professionals, as their home evolved so too did their family, with two young children by project’s end. Thoughtful consideration of ergonomics and layout efficiency ensured intuitive usability throughout the home. Integration of storage solutions enhanced practicality without compromising aesthetics. The lounge boasts a TV piece which is an art installation in and of itself which also functions to be able to hide away all AV equipment.

Reducing the kitchen’s internal entry points from four to two has optimised circulation paths, in turn promoting a consistent flow between areas, thus enhancing comfort and usability for daily living. From the bespoke coffee drawer in the kitchen to the kitchenette in the playroom, every element is tailored to streamline the family’s routines. Which includes a love for coffee and easy access to drinks when entertaining. Similar to the kitchen, the principal bedroom storage areas were also designed with a cantilevered concept.

Aligning With And Exceeding The Brief

We surpassed the client’s goals and objectives by delivering a design that exceeded their expectations. Our ability to understand their family growing from two to four people within the last two years, coupled with our collaborative approach, ensured a smooth design process. The incorporation of spaces such as the gym addressed their desire for a healthy lifestyle while maintaining the minimalist aesthetic they cherished. Feedback from the client highlighted our success in translating their vision into reality and providing solutions that resonated with their lifestyle. By continuously iterating and refining the design based on their input – transforming what was previously an extremely bland cinema room into a space that was able to live up to the dreams of an audiophile client – we ensured a high level of client satisfaction and adherence to the initial brief.

By ensuring a high level of craftsmanship through our attention to detail and rigorous quality control measures, each element of the design of this luxury Hampstead home, from bespoke furniture to custom lighting fixtures, showcased the skill and expertise of our team. Collaborating closely with skilled artisans and craftsmen, we ensured precision in execution, resulting in a flawless finish that elevates the overall aesthetic of the space. The dedication to craftsmanship is evident in the consistency of integration of design elements, contributing to the timeless elegance of the home. From our individual selection of slabs for the kitchen floor to the consistent mitred details of flooring throughout the design, it was important that craftsmanship be at front of every decision we made. This was especially important when we were bringing together several different joinery companies to be able to maintain the timeline the client wanted to execute in.

This project was a perfect example of the unique challenge presented by building a home that reflects a growing family and caters to their needs..
