Waterloo interior design: making a new-build tower flat feel like nobody else's

The brief

Sleek and contemporary, with a slight Scandinavian edge: warm wood against a cool colour palette.

The flat had to seat a crowd for dinner, but still feel cosy when it was just the two of them.

What we changed

Floors

We swapped the developer's cold porcelain tiles for engineered wood, which changed the whole feel of the flat.

Living

Soft textiles and warm timber make the most of the big windows and the views.

Dining

A table that seats a crowd, with curtains to soften the room at night.

Balcony

The enclosed balcony became a green, cosy corner with plants and cushions.

Waterloo interior design: what to plan for

Most of our work around Waterloo and the South Bank is in new-build towers, where every flat starts out the same. Building managers set rules on working hours, lifts and deliveries, and some changes, like flooring, need the freeholder's approval for sound insulation. We plan for all of this from the first meeting, so it doesn't hold up the job.

We've been designing London homes for 18 years. In that time, our bathrooms and kitchens have won national awards. The first conversation is free, and we can usually meet within a few days.
