Fulham interior design from first sketch to handover: how we dug out a basement for a growing family and then redesigned the main living room, and what we'd do for yours.

The brief

A growing family needed more space without leaving the street they love. So we went down: a new basement with a playroom, a guest suite, a utility room, a WC and storage.

A couple of years later they asked us back to redesign the main living room, so the whole house now feels like one scheme.

What we changed

Playroom

Reading, craft and play "stations" with fun storage, designed to grow into a grown-up room later.

Fulham interior design: what to plan for

Most of our Fulham work is in Victorian terraces, where the extra space usually comes from a basement, a loft or a side return. Basements need party wall agreements, a structural engineer and careful planning for light and ventilation. We plan for all of this from the first meeting, so it doesn't hold up the job.
