The brief

A growing family needed more bedrooms without moving. The flat was cluttered and impersonal, with dead space that wasn't doing anything.

We reworked the layout to add a third bedroom and an extra WC, without any room feeling squeezed, then filled the flat with light, colour and pattern.

Two bedrooms became three, and two bathrooms became two and a half, by getting rid of wasted space.

Bold wall art, colourful furniture and a bay window seat make the living room the heart of the flat.

South Kensington interior design: what to plan for

Most of our South Kensington work is in mansion flats and stucco-fronted period buildings, many in conservation areas. Changing a flat's layout usually needs the freeholder's consent, and building managers set rules on working hours and deliveries. We plan for all of this from the first meeting, so it doesn't hold up the job.
