The brief

Mid-century and full of life. The clients love warm timber, plants and colour, and wanted the penthouse to feel relaxed rather than showy.

The layout is split-level, with the bedroom on a mezzanine above the living room, so every view down and across had to look good.

What we changed

Living

Mid-century timber furniture, lots of plants and big doors out to the balcony.

Mezzanine

A bedroom tucked above the living room, with timber furniture, black lamps and a fitted wardrobe.

Colour

A colourful stairwell and a pink feature wall add personality to the in-between spaces.

Bathrooms

Geometric floor tiles, a glass shower and a simple vanity keep the bathrooms crisp.

Hackney interior design: what to plan for

Most of our Hackney work is in warehouse conversions, new-build apartments and Victorian terraces, often with open-plan or split-level layouts. Open spaces need careful zoning with colour, lighting and furniture, and apartment buildings set their own rules on works and deliveries. We plan for all of this from the first meeting, so it doesn't hold up the job.
