Interior design in Stoke Newington

Stoke Newington interior design: two family houses opened up to the garden

Stoke Newington interior design from first sketch to handover: how we redesigned two family houses near Newington Green around new kitchens and extensions, and what we'd do for yours.

Location
Stoke Newington and Newington Green, London N16
Building
Victorian terraced houses
Scope
Extensions, kitchens, dining and living spaces
Services
Interior architecture and interior design

The brief

Two families, one goal: more light and more space downstairs, with a kitchen that opens onto the garden.

In both houses the new work had to sit comfortably with the original Victorian building, using materials and colours that respect its proportions.

What we changed

Extensions

A side return and rear extension with big glass doors bring the garden into the house.

Kitchens

One with a bold purple island, the other with a wide island and seating for the family.

Dining

Dining tables placed by the biggest windows, so meals happen in the best light.

Everyday storage

A proper drop zone by the door for coats, bags and helmets, so the house stays tidy.

Stoke Newington interior design: what to plan for

Most of our Stoke Newington work is in Victorian terraces, and much of the area is covered by Hackney and Islington conservation areas. Side return and rear extensions usually need planning permission and party wall agreements, so we line these up early. We plan for all of this from the first meeting, so it doesn't hold up the job.

We've been designing London homes for 18 years. In that time, our bathrooms and kitchens have won national awards. The first conversation is free, and we can usually meet within a few days.
