Nestled within the Art Deco Alaska Buildings, this renovation project transformed a dated principal suite into an elegant, minimalist sanctuary, bursting with natural light. And! As if that wasn’t enough, it has also earned its place as a finalist in this year’s KBB Awards in the Bathroom Designer of the Year: project cost £10,000 – £25,000. While the brief called for enhancing the storage space already available without disrupting the tranquil ambiance, our solution gracefully blended functionality with aesthetics.

The clients’ vision was clear from the outset. Driven by a practical approach, they prioritised ample storage solutions to ensure their home remained organised and clutter-free. White fixtures and fittings seamlessly harmonised with the lime wash walls, preserving the minimalist aesthetic and maintaining a sense of airiness. Strategically designed joinery, accessible from both the doorway to the principal bathroom, maximised storage without compromising the uncluttered flow of the space. This thoughtful approach allowed occupants to enjoy a relaxing retreat while benefitting from maple storage solutions.

Integrating Light and Layout with Contemporary Elegance

The scope of the renovation extended beyond the confines of the bathroom, encompassing a comprehensive overhaul of the the two-bedroom, two-bath apartment, breathing new life into it while infusing it with a contemporary organic vibe. 

The primary concern of limited natural light in the bathroom was addressed by incorporating floor-to-ceiling windows were incorporated on one side of a newly constructed wall. A sliding door, matching the window, connected the bathroom to the ensuite, flooding the entire suite with natural illumination. This innovative approach not only transformed the bathroom but also redefined the overall layout of the apartment.

Our studio team’s holistic approach to the renovation enabled us to strategically reimagine the layout of the rooms. Adjusting the size and central positioning of the bedroom maximised natural light, effectively accommodating the renovated bathroom. This adjustment not only elevated the bathroom but also enhanced the entire suite, allowing occupants to enjoy panoramic views of London from both the bathroom and the bedroom. The result was a seamless connection between the interior and the outside world.

Incorporating Natural Light and Elevating the Aesthetic

The challenge of incorporating more light extended beyond the initial request for glass bricks. Going above and beyond, we considered the building’s grade listing and the client’s desire for expansive views. The result is a creative solution that not only met but exceeded expectations, transforming the principal suite into a tranquil space where natural light takes centre stage.
